How to get the most from your sunflowers

Food places aren’t the only ones looking to celebrate Christmas in July.

Southside Flower Market is hosting a winter event with a difference, a workshop which teaches people how to create stunning flower arrangements for their home.

The workshop on July 17 is $120 per head and is in the marketplace where people will be surrounded by flowers.

“Come along with your Christmas cheer and leave with a beautiful winter floral creation, made by you,” host Margi says.

“Bring the enthusiasm and Southside Flower Market will supply everything else.”

To book, phone Margi on 1300 886 171, or email service@southsideflowermarket.com.au. Limited places are available.

To get you started, Margi has provided a quick tip to get sunflowers to bloom.

“Cut the stems and place in warm sunny spot for the day,” she says. “If they are very closed it will take up to five days for them to open.”
And here’s another, this time helping you care for your vases.
“Flowers need a clean vase,” she says.
“Fill your vase with warm water, making sure any residue is submerged. Add white vinegar and one tablespoon of baking soda or more depending on the size of the vase.
“Let it sit until the fizzing stops. Empty the vase, and use a sponge, bottle brush, or old toothbrush to loosen up any grime that remains.”
