When Wayne walked into Kingston East Neighbourhood Group, he was homeless, hungry and tired.
He’d begun to lose hope.
That was less than two months ago, but Wayne was welcomed.
“We fed him and his faithful best friend Blaze and offered warm, clean clothing,” a Kingston East Neighbourhood Group representative said.
“In our bid to find shelter for Wayne we discovered the true depth of the homeless crisis which is unfolding on our very own doorstep. Having exhausted all options, Wayne’s plight to find a home touched many of us within the KENG community.”
The only option available was to provide a tent which Wayne set up at the back of the industrial area towards Wembley Road, Kingston.
Wayne showed grace and gratitude as he accepted the tent and embraced the challenges ahead, enduring cold nights, intruders, torrential winds and rain.
“During this time, there was a small army working tirelessly to see an end to this nightmare and finally our prayers were answered as Wayne was offered permanent accommodation,” the representative said.
Wayne has now settled in to ‘Sheltered by Grace’ and is regaining strength.
