A fashion show and high tea fundraiser will be held early next month to help Formally Ever After rebuild after its donations were torched in last month’s storage unit blaze at Kingston.
Since 2019 the Logan-based charity has gifted formal wear to more than 6000 students from 250 schools and organisations across the country.
Two weeks ago, a storage unit belonging to charity-founder Tammy Robinson-Heynatz was one of many destroyed in a fire at Storage King’s Kingston facility.
Six weeks’ worth of donated suits and dresses was inside Ms Robinson-Heynatz’s unit, along with some personal belongings that were stored there while her family moved house.
Mayoress Alison Raven is co-organising next month’s fundraiser, which will aim to replenish the charity’s stock of formal wear.
She said it would be an afternoon of entertainment, fun, laughter and community spirit.
“Tammy does such amazing work in our community, and when I heard about the tragedy of the fire last week, destroying many of her beautify donated gowns, I just knew we had to do something,” Ms Raven said.
“A group of superstar community members who have also seen the impact Formally Ever After has on our young people got in touch with me and together the Formally Ever After Fashion show was born.”
Guests are asked to bring an item to donate – dresses, suits, jewellery or anything that will help make a young person’s formal night.
The event will run from 11am-1pm on Sunday 11 August at Your Lifestyle Centre at Beenleigh.
