Logan City Council is calling on residents to donate blankets and towels to support cats and dogs spending colder months at the Animal Management Centre.
The annual donation drive encourages the community to give their old linen a second life, helping to provide warmth and comfort to animals while they wait to be united with owners and a new home.
Donations are very important to help keep animals in facilities safe and warm throughout winter.
Similarly, the Animal Welfare League Queensland relies on donations to keep its furry friends warm during the colder months.
Beenleigh Animal Rehoming Centre is a member of the Aninal Welfare League and spokeswoman Nina Richie said blanket donations were important to help keep pets warm and protected against hypothermia.
“For our shelter, we run solely off donations,” Ms Richie said.
“All of our stuff is donated, to keep our animals warm.”
Ms Richie said it is best for residents to recycle old linens through donations rather than throwing them away.
“For our little puppies here, they can get quite cold overnight. We don’t really like leaving them overnight.
“We want to leave them with the biggest comfiest blankets we can, but that is just dependent on what we get donated.”
Services including the Animal Management Centre and the Animal Welfare League hope residents clearing out linen cupboards this winter will consider donating instead of discarding, turning unused household items into comfort for animals waiting for their next chapter.
Ms Richie said the league would also make use of donated dog coats and fluffy beds to help animals stay warm this winter.
“Big comfy doonas and anything that they can go under and just keep them warm,” she said.
While blankets and towels remain a focus during winter, the centre also accepts unopened food and treats, along with new toys and enrichment items to support animal wellbeing.
For residents wanting to contribute, donations can be dropped off at the Beenleigh Customer Service Centre during opening hours or directly to the Animal Management Centre.
Second-hand toys are not accepted due to disease management requirements and doonas and pillows are not accepted due to animal safety requirements.
The Animal Management Centre has many locations ready to collect donations from those clearing out their linen cupboards this winter.
Residents can drop off their donations from 8am-4.45pm Monday to Friday at the Beenleigh Customer Service Centre, 105 George Street, Beenleigh.
Similarly, locals can also drop off any donations to AWLQ at 16 Rossmanns Road, Stapylton.
