A new website matching willing volunteers with local organisations is among the projects sharing $66,635 in federal funding across the Rankin electorate.
Thirty sporting clubs, neighbourhood organisations, cultural groups, schools and community services have been approved for grants ranging from $1000 to $4000.
Federal Treasurer and Member for Rankin Jim Chalmers said the recipients reflected the community’s willingness to help others.
“In our community in Logan and Brisbane’s southern suburbs, we’ve got a strong culture of looking out for one another,” Mr Chalmers said.
“From schools to sports clubs to scouts groups, our community is brimming with locals giving up their time to get involved.”
Volunteer Connect will use its $2000 grant to develop a website connecting people who want to volunteer with opportunities to help locally.
Logan East Community Neighbourhood Association, one of the area’s longest-serving volunteer organisations, will receive $1200 for new computers in its reception area.
Sporting groups are among the largest recipients.
Logan Brothers Rugby League Club has been approved for $3250, while Browns Plains Rugby League Football Club and Logan Roos Football Club will each receive $3000.
Logan City Netball Association will receive $2000 and Logan Metro Football Club has been allocated $1800.
The funding also reaches organisations preserving Logan’s culture, history and community connections.
Logan Performance Bush Poets and Berrinba East State School’s P&C will each receive $1500, while Logan City Historical Museum Society has been approved for $1000.
The Logan District Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisation for Elders will receive $3000, while the Australian Breastfeeding Association’s Logan South–Scenic Rim group, Underwood Scouts and the Browns Plains branch of Blue Light Queensland have each been allocated $1500.
“All 30 groups do amazing work to help kids in sport, provide care and company to older people and welcome new families to our area,” Mr Chalmers said.
“I’m proud to be treasurer in a government that delivers support for the people who routinely show up for their friends, families and neighbours.”
