I would encourage everyone in my electorate of Forde, covering Logan City and the northern Gold Coast, to review the plans and have their say on the designs for the next phase of the Pacific Motorway upgrade.
This roadway is the major artery for South East Queensland so it is essential we ensure that it delivers.
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) says that the M1 Motorway is one of the busiest roads in Australia, carrying in excess of 150,000 vehicles per day, including over 12,000 heavy vehicles.
Forde is one of the fastest growing regions in Australia, with a number of its suburbs booming.
Many residents from these areas travel north to Brisbane or south to the Gold Coast each day to work, shop, visit friends and family, or for recreational activities.
Since I was first elected as the Member for Forde in 2010, I have been fighting tirelessly to improve the M1 and I have had some success.
As well as the widening projects, from Brisbane’s Gateway Bridge to my electorate of Forde, the former federal government helped fund major works at a number of junctions.
Upgrades have been completed or are underway at Exits 41, 45 and 49, I am also campaigning for additional funds to upgrade Exit 38 at Yatala North.
The latest plan, announced recently, is to improve a 10 kilometre stretch of the M1 between Daisy Hill and the Logan Motorway.
This $1 billion dollar project includes widening the motorway, extending the South East busway, building a new bus station and a ‘park n ride’ facility, and extending the cycleway.
Governments don’t always get it right, so it is important that locals raise any objections now during the planning stage before the consultation period closes on November 27.
