Giving back to the community, Heritage Bank Community Branch Forest Lake

Every two months, Heritage Bank’s Forest Lake Branch in association with Forest Lake One Community (FLOC) determines which local non-profit organisations and groups should receive grant funding that allows them to continue their work.

Last month on Friday, 3 October, Brisbane South Toy Library, Pillowcases for Oncology and National Senior’s Australia Forest Lake Branch, received more than $5000.

Brisbane South Toy Library, located in Richlands, is open from 9.30am to 11.30am on Tuesday and Saturday mornings and allows children aged six months to 12 years to choose toys from a selection of hundreds to borrow, play with and then return or exchange, much like traditional libraries.

The toy library is designed to reduce waste and cut family costs, while fostering an environment of community and togetherness.

Volunteers at Pillowcases for Oncology make and donate pillows to children undergoing or recovering from cancer treatments and is designed to make them as comfortable as possible while receiving medical treatment.

Dan Baldwin from FLOC said Pillowcases for Oncology was a cause particularly close to his heart and that he was proud to support a cause that makes a difference to so many children and their families.

National Seniors Australia Forest Lake Branch which provides a range of services such as access to financial advice and local community connections to people over 50, who are also members of the organisation, received the third grant

Heritage Bank’s Community Forest Lake Branch opened in 2005 and is a joint venture between the border Heritage Bank organisation and the local community group FLOC.

Besides providing regular bank services, the Forest Lake branch is specifically designed to give back to the local community, branch manager Sanjh Prasad said.

Groups within the branch boundary, which includes Doolandella, Durack, Ellen Grove, Forest Lake, Heathwood, Inala, Pallara, Richlands, Willawong, and sections of Acacia Ridge, Larapinta and Wacol, can apply for a community grant.

Since its opening, Heritage Forest Lake Community Branch has given out more than $1.5 million in community grants.
