There’s a certain giggle factor about going to Barefoot Fish at Browns Plains.
When fish start to nibble at the dead skin on people’s feet, it tickles.
The small toothless fish come from Turkey, and swim around in warm freshwater tanks.
They rasp, suck and gently nibble away at dry and dead skin.
Good news is that Medicare is available.
Aside from the novelty, there are a number of potential health benefits, including increased circulation, an activation of acupuncture points, a balancing of the nervous system, and awakening of the lymphatic system.
They’ve also been known to help treat psoriasis, eczema, nerve pain and neuropathy management.
The end result leaves feet feeling refreshed and healthy. Many people say they feel like they are walking on clouds after a session.
Tank sessions run every 30 minutes.
Before all sessions, trained ichthyotherapy practitioners and assistants conduct a foot screening, wash and sterilize your lower legs and feet, and all the fish to get to work.
After a fish spa, people’s feet are sterilised again.
When going for an appointment, staff ask that no creams or lotions be used. Nail polish is okay.
