by Mayor Jon Raven
Signing thousands of congratulations certificates for our city’s year 12 students is an enormous task, but it’s also one of my favourites.
To the graduating students: you have done Logan proud.
Each of your names represents the effort and persistence you’ve put in, regardless of your final results.
You’ve made it through one of the biggest milestones of your lives, and I congratulate your parents and carers on completing this journey with you.
We are all looking forward to seeing what you’ll achieve next. For many of you, the next step will be a university qualification.
Applications for our 2026 City of Logan Tertiary Education Bursary program are now open.
Once again, we’re joining forces with some of our most respected local businesses to offer $5,000 bursaries to students who are ready to take on full-time tertiary study – but need a financial boost to get there.
Years ago, Mayor Pam Parker awarded one of these to someone who is now a member of my Mayor’s Office team.
You never know where it can help you get to.
If you’re in Year 12, live in Logan and plan to study full-time in 2026, this opportunity is for you.
The bursary is paid in instalments for each semester, or trimester, of a three-year course.
Applications open tomorrow (Wednesday, October 29) and must be submitted online through Smartygrants.
All the eligibility criteria and other need-to-know information is on Council’s website: www.logan.qld.gov.au.
If you meet the criteria, your application will be reviewed by a selection panel that looks beyond just grades.
They’ll consider your academic record, your passion for learning and your achievements, as well as your personal and financial circumstances.
It can take some bravery to apply for study assistance, but with school behind you, now’s the time to back yourself.
You’ve done something big.
We’re excited to help you do something bigger.
