Christmas: If you can spare, it’s time to share

Christmas is a time for giving, and all across Logan, communities have been rallying together for those who need a hand this time of year.

Last year I brought back one of former Mayor Pam Parker’s traditions, the Mayor’s Christmas Lunch – an event that brings the community together to support for those in need.

This year’s event will be held at the Distillery Road Markets and funds raised will go to the City of Logan Charitable Trust.

Guests are encouraged to bring gifts for the Logan Emergency Services Santa Run.

It’s the seventh year for the Santa Run, a tradition that sees a convoy of emergency services leaving from Woodridge Fire Station on December 25.

Santa comes along for the ride with volunteers on Christmas morning, giving out lollies and handing out all the toys to make the day brighter for kids in need. .

Donated toys are also distributed to the Logan Hospital children’s ward, and the Logan Police Child Protection and Domestic Violence Units.

In 2025 the giving spirit has been stronger than ever, as Logan City Council staff once again supported the Salvos Christmas appeal.

Those donations were collected last week by Logan Salvation Army Captain Ashley Biermann and he was most grateful for the support.

Council workers have been donating to the Christmas appeal for over 20 years, and this year our team gifted hundreds of toys and festive goodies.

I encourage anyone with the means to dig deep and give to those in need during this special time of year.

There are still tickets available for the Mayor’s Christmas Lunch on Friday.

Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite, with all proceeds going to the City of Logan Charitable Trust: go to https://bit.ly/Mayorslunch for more information.

For those doing it tough themselves, there are still plenty of free Council Christmas events for everyone in the community to enjoy. This lunch just serves a different purpose, to bring together people who are in a position to give a little more, so we can raise money that goes straight back to those doing vital work on the ground.
