Logan is set to receive funding for a Fire Ant Suppression Taskforce (FAST), which will aim to reduce the spread of fire ants through community self-treatment projects.
The $37.5 million taskforce, which will also target Gold Coast, Ipswich, Scenic Rim and Southern Downs, was created to reinforce the work of the state government’s new National Fire Ant Eradication Program.
The program will see a 10 kilometre “horseshoe” containment area which will wrap around infestation zones in south-east Queensland to prevent the invasive species spreading into New South Wales.
The containment zone will span from Moreton Bay, west to the Lockyer Valley, east into the Gold Coast and south to the Tweed Shire.
