A new community service offers free meals and groceries to vulnerable Jimboomba locals.
Logan’s 2024 volunteer of the year, Sarah Weir, along with other local families and Humanity First Australia, created a free pantry service to run every Sunday.
“The amount of people coming along is growing slowly, but we know that there are so many more within our local community who could use some extra support,” Ms Weir said.
“These are free services that are available to anyone who could benefit from a fresh cooked meal and or needs assistance with grocery items.
“We don’t require anyone to show a health care card etc, they can just come along on a Sunday (every Sunday if they need) and get what they need.”
The community pantry, located at Dorrington House on 1 Johanna Street, is being replenished by Ms Weir and few local families.
“But I would love to get some more donations happening as I know that the need for this service is only going to continue to grow,” Ms Weir said.
She said the Rotary Club of Jimboomba was donating the use of the building.
The service runs every Sunday from 5-6pm.
