Four cakes and three generations

Four birthday cakes arrived at 22A Benwerrin Road. By the end of the celebrations, not a crumb was left.

What began with a magnificent double-decker cake became an afternoon of darts, board games, laughter and the gradual disappearance of three more desserts.

“Nobody’s going to eat the rest of the cakes,” Will remembered thinking.

“But we did.”

It is one of countless memories made at the Loganholme house, originally purchased by Will and his family for his parents, Will (senior) and Vosie, to give them somewhere to settle after renting; a place where they could finally hang their photographs and make the house their own.

But it soon became something more.

As the grandchildren arrived, the house became a regular gathering place, with little ones spending several days a week in their grandparents’ care.

The 793sqm block became a childhood playground, its wrapping yard and broad concrete area providing room for bicycle rides and endless games of hide-and-seek.

“I’ve chased my daughter and son around there too many times,” Will said.

He remembers once hiding behind a wall, drawing a puzzled look from a neighbour until a child came racing past.

Family barbecues also became a tradition, with gatherings rotating between the grandparents, Will and his brother.

“We’ve had many a barbecue there,” Will said.

“We’re very family oriented, I guess, if you put it that way.”

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom house has high ceilings, open-plan living and a covered entertaining area overlooking established gardens.

A small watercourse runs alongside the property, while trees and a birdbath attract feathered visitors that Will’s mother particularly enjoyed identifying.

Despite nearby schools, shops and the M1, the leafy neighbourhood retains a sense of separation from surrounding suburbia.

“It’s quite a nice relaxing property,” Will said.

Now, with a third child on the way, Will and his family have moved further out, where the grandparents have joined them on the same block.

The Loganholme house awaits another family, leaving behind memories of bicycle races, barbecues and birthdays with far too much cake.

“Not sure what the next person would do,” Will said.

“But that was us.”

The property is listed through Pragya Ojha of LJ Hooker Property Partners, with an auction scheduled for Wednesday 21 October at 5.30pm at 25 Pinelands Road, Sunnybank Hills.
