More than 300 locals hit Flagstone Oval on Sunday to celebrate Neighbour Day.
A family fun day welcomed new and established residents of Flagstone with a barbecue lunch while relaxing on picnic blankets.
The free community event, hosted by PEET, offered entertainment for all ages with live music from local band Roxbury, a 15m inflatable obstacle course and roving photographer to capture the occasion.
Flagstone community association president Donna-Marie Jarden said Neighbour Day’s purpose of connecting communities is exactly what Flagstone offers its residents.
“To me, community spirit is everything,” she said.
“If you don’t have that, you’re just living in a house, in a place, disconnected from the people living around you. I think we’ve all had that, and many people are experiencing that lack of connection across Australia – Flagstone is different.
“At Flagstone, we are remarkably responsive with a big heart.”
Neighbour Day, an initiative by Relationships Australia, is an annual event held on the last Sunday in March.
The theme of 2022’s Neighbour Day was ‘connecting communities’, focusing on relationship building to help unite communities but also address the growing loneliness epidemic many Australians are facing.
Peet Limited CEO Brendan Gore said Flagstone’s Neighbour Day success is a testament to the community’s comradery, especially during the past two years.
“Peet’s long-term vision for bringing Flagstone to life is becoming more of a reality every day and supporting Neighbour Day is expansion of our commitment to fostering a community spirit where neighbours become family,” Mr Gore said.
“Flagstone is one of Southeast Queensland’s largest and fastest growing new residential areas, attracting more than 20 new families every month thanks to our focus on community, family and outdoor lifestyle.”
