First look: Beenleigh Show returns in 2022

From rides and competitions, to fireworks, showbags and camel rides, there will be something for everyone to enjoy at this year’s Beenleigh Show.

The family-fun event will be making a return to Beenleigh Showgrounds from September 10, after the previous two years were cancelled due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Show president Darryl Plummer says he is proud to deliver the 143rd Beenleigh Show to the community.

“We are keen to put it on and we really hope we get the support from the local community because we want the Beenleigh Show to continue well past its 150 years,” he said.

“Our day program will include; horses, goats, sheep, poultry, birds, camel rides, dogs, music, roving clown, cookery art, photography, quilt spinning and weaving, and other pavilion entries.

“Our night program consists of a wood chop and a rodeo, followed by fireworks.

“We will have some roving music and the bush poets will also be performing between those activities.”

Mr Plummer says all the old favourites will be back this year, with a rodeo and camel rides “the two major changes”.

“We like to think we can move into the future to get the young people that come, but there’s still that tradition that we like to think that we are preserving what’s been part of the show circuit since about the 1700s in the UK,” he said.

Camelot Camels owner Wayne Morris says he is excited to hold camel rides for people from the young to the old, and is this year introducing competitions in the afternoon “to get people more involved”.

“We want people to bring their camels to the show and then … get their camels judged, so it will be a bit more like the horses and the cattle,” he said.

“And so we’re trying to get it so you can bring your camel to the show and show it off.”

Crowd favourites the Memphis Moovers will also be back performing all the great songs from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond.

Lead vocalist Valerie Edwards says the band will once again be roving around during the day and in the evening they will act as a live band.

“We play a big variety of music, everything from Elvis to Lady Gaga and everything in between.

Rides will include; Dodgem track, Avalanche, bungee trampolines, rock wall, land train and others.
