The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) has announced a fire ban for Logan residents from 2 October.
The ban will remain in place in parts of south-east Queensland – including Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Ipswich, and Scenic Rim – until 12.59pm on 7 October.
“Current fire conditions are perfect for bushfires to ignite and spread quickly,” a QFD statement read.
“Under a local fire ban all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire which have been issued in the designated area have been suspended for the duration of the ban.”
The department said power tools may be used during the five-day period, however, locals are encouraged to do so “with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire which may start”
“This may include having a person available to watch out for any ignitions that occur.”
