Travel the isles of Greece and places like Georges Grill at Cornubia are everywhere, each with their own specialties.
Here however, they’re few and far between.
Primarily a takeaway, there are a few outdoor tables and a long share table inside on which to enjoy a glass of wine and any of the treats on the Greek-inspired seafood menu.
Grilled baby octopus are a Greek staple and a dinner for around $20 here comes with chips, salad, tartare and lemon.
It’s a simple meal bursting with natural flavour.
If public polls are to believed, many of the people flowing through the doors of an early evening are looking for the burgers which in one contest were voted the best in Logan.
There are some good burgers around, but the staff will point you to the most popular options – either a classic royale or a Dixie.
The royale comes on a regular toasted bun and is made with ground beef, bacon, egg, cheese, grilled onion, salad and barbecue sauce.
“I could make that at home,” I hear you say. Yes you could, but you might not have the ingredients oozing into your fingers, or the side of chips which are all cooked to a crisp with chicken salt.
No need to filter through all the chips in search of a crispy one here.
The Dixie is on a lighter Turkish bread and also has a beef patty. There’s double bacon, double Swiss cheese, grilled onion, salad, avocado and a fruit chutney.
The chutney is a pick-me-up that gives the burger a zing, and a meal comes in at less than $20.
The vegetarian “Phoebe G” burger has fetta and a spinach patty to carry the Greek theme, mushrooms, Swiss, avocado, grilled onion, pesto mayo and salsa. Superb.
There’s fish and chips, which can be accompanied with a Greek salad, and plenty of fresh seafood to choose from the display cabinet, such as oysters or bugs.
There are most of the options you’ll find in a regular fish and chips takeaway, but it’s worth being a little bit adventurous here and stepping outside the regular order.
I’ve often been disappointed after choosing the left-field option, but that won’t happen here. The creative options have been well thought out and they’re rich in Mediterranean influence.
It’s nice that a shop this size has thought about decor – a diver’s helmet taking pride of place behind the counter. Add that to a cheeky alcoholic beverage and the world becomes a very nice place – at least for an hour or so.
Save a little bit of room for some ice cream which has been made in-house – again, with Greek influence. Baklava and pistachio tubs both satisfy sweet tooths, or go the Tim Tam for a more traditional chocolate-driven route.
