A first of its kind health, education, training and community hub has opened at a Kingston State School.
The FamilyLinQ includes consulting rooms for specialist health services, a first aid room, offices and an outdoor staff space, reception area, meeting and conference rooms, amenities and two learning spaces.
Local politicians said it would “change lives, help families and strengthen the entire community”.
Free to local families, the services couldn’t operate without the help of The Bryan Foundation, which is contributing $10 million over 10 years to deliver the FamilyLinQ hub.
The foundation’s executive director, Matthew Cox, said FamilyLinQ was a new, holistic approach to schooling.
“… not only providing quality education, but also health services, early childhood development, family support, employment focused training and community development,” he said.
“FamilyLinQ aims to support the whole family and to drive positive outcomes in education, health and life outcomes for families and their children.
“The Bryan Foundation are very proud to be working in partnership with the Kingston State School community and the Department of Education to establish the first FamilyLinQ school in Queensland.”
State Member for Woodridge Cameron Dick said the hub would combine the wonderful and welcoming Kingston State School environment with a new place that offers health, education and training.
“By offering a familiar, free, and integrated service FamilyLinQ will be able to improve the lives for children and their families,” he said.
“I am so proud to be part of a Government that is brave enough to invest in innovative projects like FamilyLinQ that will have a substantial affect on Queensland children’s lives.”
Kingston State School Principal Robyn Marshall said: “Our partnership with The Bryan Foundation will mean that our students and their families will have the opportunity to receive tailored support when and how they need it, all at Kingston State School.
“The opening of the administration space, and the surroundings, has generated a lot of interest within the school community. It is wonderful for our staff to have such a lovely space to work in and to welcome students and families into as well.
“We are so excited to welcome our families to FamilyLinQ.”
