A loud boom that woke Jimboomba residents early this morning (Wednesday 21 February) was caused by an exploding tyre.
Locals were awoken at around 3.30am by a noise so loud residents said it “shook the windows”.
Those travelling along Cerina Circuit this morning said the sound came from a truck that caught on fire.
A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson confirmed a truck’s tyre exploded while it was travelling along Cerina Circuit, causing the vehicle’s tyres to catch on fire.
The spokesperson said a passer-by in a water truck stopped to assist, and the fire was extinguished before any emergency crews arrived on scene.
“It was caused by a blown tyre – by friction with the brakes – rather than the load on the truck,” he said.
The fire crew left a 4.45am.
