Drift away with breezeway vibe

Many of us might be starting to forget what holidays are like.

There’s a feeling of relaxation when you find yourself a table overlooking the water in a small beach-side restaurant, the cool of the breezeway just enough to quell the heat of a warm summer’s day.

Jimboomba might not have the water, but it does have Cafe on Cusack which has set up retro tables in the breezeway of the town’s colonial village – a stretch of two-storey Queenslanders.

Look up to see high carriageways decorated with hanging plants and various other colonial-style art.

The surroundings shed a vibe of escapism, taking you away from the day-to-day hustle and bustled into a cool and relaxed setting.

It’s open for breakfast and lunch, and the menu doesn’t change from one to the next, aside from the lunchtime offering of the restaurant’s own burgers.

To be fair though, it doesn’t have to change much. Happy eggs are a combination of smashed avocado rolled in a light mustard sauce, sitting alongside poached eggs and halloumi.

It’s as healthy as it is tasty. If you’re missing some bacon or chorizo, there’s an option to have those included.

But it doesn’t really need the extras, and is served on two pieces of locally-baked sourdough, crusty on the edges and melt-in-your-mouth tender in the middle.

There are more traditional breakfast meals such as eggs benny or smashed avo, but they’re all done with a slight twist, adding fresh produce or in the case of the avo, the addition of feta seeds and sweet potato shards.

Or try the mushie fold, a blend of spiced pumpkin and grilled mushrooms in a crepe.

Quite a few of the people who visit the cafe are catching up with friends and even close to lunch time, they’re ordering cake and coffee.

And it’s not surprising after trying the brownie and carrot cake with banana icing. Freshly baked, they’re being shipped to nearby shopowners and people queued up on benches outside towards the outside of the village.

Service is helpful and with a smile, albeit behind the facade of a mask in modern times.

This is a hidden gem well worth exploring.
