Doing things the Emmaus way

Emmaus College’s 2023 captains have pledged to serve the Emmaus College community by working with and for students, to maintain the friendliness and connectiveness of the spacious P-12 community and provide a place where each student can learn, grow, and belong.

Year 12 College Captains Jayah Millard and Daniel Ryan have the support of the entire student body and a dedicated team of student leaders and staff mentors to help them achieve their goals.

“The community life of Emmaus College is the one thing I have always valued most over my time at the College,” Jayah, who commenced with Emmaus in 2018 as a Year 7 student, said.

“I hope to help grow our community connection even further by using my leadership role to serve all throughout the College from the Preps to the Year 12s.”

Daniel, who has been a student of Emmaus College since 2015, says he draws inspiration and connectedness from his peers.

“I wanted to become College Captain because of the people and friends around me. They inspire me every day to serve and lead to the best of my ability,” he said.

The Year 6 College captains, Ashlea Bell and Jacob Bear are excited to take on their roles and are already achieving some of their goals.

“I particularly wanted to be a student leader to try and help achieve a personal goal to get over my stage fright and I have already had opportunities to speak at large college events, so I think I already have met this goal,” Ashlea said.

Jacob agreed. He said both he and Ashlea “mostly wanted to be in a leadership role so that they could help everyone else achieve their goals.”

Emmaus College has a large and diverse group of student leaders who take on various roles as Community Captains in portfolios of Tradition, Action, Life, House and Student Representative Council.

The common values of this entire group of student leaders is their commitment to the Emmaus way; demonstrating responsibility, respect and being of service to the college and wider community.
