Visions of a bright nightlife in Logan are nearing reality with the opening of the city’s first night club.
Club Noir in Loganholme, which for the last two years has operated as a private function space hired out for parties, celebrations and other gatherings, will be transformed into an 18+ DJ night every Thursday from 20 February.
With a liquor licence taking party-goers to midnight and potentially beyond, and a 200+ capacity, the owners of Club Noir want to kickstart Logan’s nightlife scene.
Club founder and former Logan Chamber of Commerce president Stewart Fleming said the goal was to attract people to the city, while also providing a scene for local young people.
“There is so little to do for those 18+ in the city,” he said.
“There’s an opportunity here because the city is growing so big and it is one of the youngest cities in Australia, and yet we have nothing for the youth really.
“Sure, we’ve got Area 51 and that’s fantastic, but that’s not really the 18+ scene.”
He said there was also demand from DJs hoping to expand their audiences.
“We put the word out and some of the top DJs were super keen,” Mr Fleming said.
Nightlife plans at Club Noir don’t stop at a DJ night.
Mr Flemming and his wife, co-owner Lisa Lockland Bell, are in March launching a 30s+ live music night running every Friday.
“We’ve got 10 bands now signed up, but we’re looking for 16,” Mr Fleming said.
“We’re doing it because, again, there’s a need – there’s just nothing you can do in the city.
“Our space is nice and big, they can bump in easily, patrons can park… so they’re super keen.”
While a couple of pubs around town also run DJ nights, Mr Fleming said Club Noir’s would be different.
“We’ve got a full stage, we know how to run our DJs, we’ve got good sound equipment, we’ve got lighting.”
According to Mr Fleming, running DJ and live band nights also makes sense from a business perspective.
“We’ve run several hundred 18ths, 21sts, 30ths, 40ths, 50ths, a couple of 90ths, wedding receptions, all sorts of stuff,” he said.
“What’s the difference between a massive corporate Christmas party and a 21st? Well, half of the folk are there just because it’s little Johnny’s 21st, and they’ll have one wine and then they’ll go home.
“The Christmas party was all drinkers, all having a great night.”
