A new display village has been built to tap into the growing downsizer market.
Ingenia Lifestyle Chambers Pines has built six display homes at the village which they say will cater for those wanting more affordable, smaller homes.
The lifestyle company’s in-house design and development teams worked with Brighton Projects to build homes priced between $200,000 and $300,000.
Brighton Projects general manager Ricky Morgan said: “Ingenia Lifestyle came to us with smart home designs for us to build that maximise space and these homes include plenty of cupboard and hanging space, modern appliances and fixtures, good-sized kitchen pantries and multiple storage spaces in the hallways and garage.
“These homes allow people in the over-50 age group to easily make the transition into retirement in a comfortable, contemporary home that suits a modern retirement lifestyle.”
Studies from the Australian Housing and Research Institute show 90% of seniors who downsized were happier, in large part due to the layout and design of more manageable homes.
Furthermore, it cites an unmet demand for separate houses, two and three-bedroom homes and homeownership among the downsizing cohort, an Ingenia representative said.
Ingenia Communities regional development manager for Queensland Matt Fedrick said 77% of residents move from three or four-bedroom houses when they downsize to one of their communities.
The homes on display range from one-bedroom, study, single lock up garage home to two bedrooms, two bathrooms, study and double lock up garage with a variety of different layouts to suit different needs.
“Downsizing is all about simply finding a more manageable space to live in and reduce some of the clutter − that’s why we typically see two-bedroom homes with an extra study space being the most popular designs with downsizers,” Mr Fedrick said.
