A Canadian visitor received an unexpected welcome to Logan this week, arriving just in time to help residents prepare for tropical cyclone Alfred.
Rueban, who hails from British Columbia, landed in Australia on Tuesday and spent Friday shovelling sand for flood preparations alongside volunteers at Jimboomba Sports Park.
Councillor Scott Bannan, who shared the story, said the least he could do was buy the newcomer a beer after his efforts.
Community spirit was on show in other parts of the city as well.
At Beenleigh Showgrounds, local Matthew Lloyd dedicated his day to delivering sandbags to residents unable to collect them themselves.
Meanwhile, at Logan Metro Sports Complex, community members worked together to pre-fill bags for the elderly and those in need.
Logan residents once again demonstrated their resilience and community spirit, proving that even those new to the area can quickly become part of the effort.
