Twenty fire crews – possibly 80 firefighters – were called to a factory fire at Crestmead overnight.
The blaze destroyed at least half the building, a Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) spokesperson said, and filled surrounding suburbs with potentially plastic-laced smoke.
A crime scene has since been declared.
The QFES spokesperson said multiple 000 calls were made at around 1am.
She said about 20 crews, which “generally” consist of four firefighters per crew, arrived on scene to fight the blaze.
The fire was “contained to the one structure”, and was out by around 4am.
QFES issued a smoke alert at 2.30am, advising residents in Berrinba, Marsden, Heritage Park and Browns Plains to “close windows and doors and keep respiratory medication close by”.
The spokesperson said there were concerns about plastic that burned during the fire.
“The factory produces plastic material,” she said.
One fire crew remains on scene “dampening down an hot spots”.
