Couple packs cherished memories in move to downsize

Linda and James Powlett are selling their home in Eagleby after 45 years of “cherished” memories.

Mrs Powlett said the family home meant a lot to them and it would be difficult to say goodbye.

“There are things that we will miss desperately,” she said.

“We have a fireplace, open fire, which is lovely and it (the house) is central to everything – only halfway between the Gold Coast and Brisbane.

“And we have a pergola out the back which we use all the time.”

But she said it was more than just the home she would miss – it was the suburb.

“We’ve made such good friends here,” Mrs Powlett said.

“We brought two girls up here… and we both worked locally. We haven’t got any animosity towards Eagleby.”

Their children have moved to Bargara in Bundaburg, so Mr and Mrs Powlett have been frequently travelling up to see them.

“We’d like to move closer to family and to the beach,” she said.

“And we want to downsize.”

The couple has already bought a house in Bargara, but said they wouldn’t be leaving Logan forever.

“The thing is, you don’t leave,” Mrs Powlett said.

“You come back.”

She said they often drove up to Bargara to see the family but now they’d be “doing the reverse trip” down to Logan.

They’re selling their house at an auction based on the advice of their agent.

She said they hoped to sell to a young family who could have similar experiences to the Powletts.

“This is this is a family home and we’d like to see a family in here,” she said.

The auction is on Thursday 20 July.

Mrs Powlett said they had no expectations, but they were hoping for the best.

The house is at 1 Bray Court, Eagleby.
