Cost of winter is plain to see

For many households, the winter power bills are being delivered and the result of running the heater in the cool mornings or the kids taking their extra-long hot showers is plain to see.

While every Queensland household has received a $550 credit off their bill, our government has extended this support to include an extra $700 electricity rebate on top of the ongoing $372.20 concession for pensioners.

This credit will apply automatically if you have advised your electricity provider that you are a pensioner or concession card holder.

Across Logan, approximately 17,000 eligible pensioners are yet to claim the full $1,072 rebate. That’s 13% of those eligible in the community who may not be receiving the full benefit of this year’s cost-of-living relief.

It’s worth taking the time to contact your provider to check whether your details are correct, you may not realise you are missing out on some huge savings.

For households who might be looking at their older appliances and are thinking about upgrading, now’s the time. The Queensland Government will be offering rebates on the purchase of new appliances which score four or more stars in energy efficiency.

For most Queenslanders, a new washing machine, dryer or dishwasher will be eligible for a rebate of $300 and for those earning below $66,000 per year, the rebate will be $550. For new fridges, air-cons and solar or heat-pump hot water systems rebates range from $350 all the way to $1000.

Upgrading to solar or heat-pump hot water systems will not only attract rebate of between $800 and $1000 depending on your income but will also save you on average over $1000 every year on your energy bills.
