Cost-of-living relief must be budget focus

COST-of-living relief must be a priority in the budget.

Keeping kids happy and healthy shouldn’t break the bank. That’s why Labor introduced FairPlay vouchers – to help families with the cost of sport and recreation activities.

After months of relentless pressure, the LNP government has finally conceded and will continue the program.

But while it’s good to see the FairPlay vouchers survive, we need much more from this week’s State Budget to support families.

Before the election, David Crisafulli promised electricity rebates if families were still struggling. Now, it has been reported that those rebates will not be delivered – despite his claims that he could lower power prices.

Under the LNP, Queenslanders are paying more for power than ever before. The LNPs energy plan has failed, and now families will be left to pay the full whack when their next bill arrives; on average, bills will rise $77.

Labor introduced the $1000 energy rebates last year, and promised they would’ve been included in the next budget. Even the current Premier promised lower power prices, if people were still struggling.

Well, the last time I checked, people are still struggling.

As Shadow Treasurer, I’ll be keeping the pressure on the government to deliver genuine cost-of-living relief in this week’s budget – not more cuts and broken promises.

Logan Reserve Bus Route Update

I know how much our community needs the new Logan Reserve bus route. I’ve been receiving regular updates from Translink, and they’ve confirmed that the route is on track to be delivered in 2026.

Right now, they’re working with Logan City Council on the necessary infrastructure – including bus stops.

I want to make sure this route is designed by the people who will actually use it. If you have suggestions about where the bus stops should go, please contact my office. I’ll pass all feedback directly to Translink. My email is Waterford@Parliament.qld.gov.au.
