MORE and more I am hearing from local residents in Forde that the cost of living is their number one issue, indeed I would say it is the number one issue for all Australians.
When Labor came to government they promised they had all the answers to the cost of living crisis. They promised to reduce your energy bills by $275 and cheaper mortgages for all Australians.
Fifteen months in, energy prices have increased astronomically and there are no signs of this slowly down, while interest rates have risen 11 times since the last election.
Inflationary pressures have compounded these increases, with Australians finding their pay cheques are not going as far as they were a year ago.
It is clear that there is no plan to lower inflation or the cost of living.
I know many households have had to, and will continue to, make tough decisions about their budgets in the coming months.
Already, they have tightened their belts where they can, with many cutting out discretionary spending, while some have had to make more drastic cuts by not heating their home over winter.
The Coalition is committed to helping those who are suffering.
That is why we voted to establish the Select Committee on the Cost of Living to inquire into and report on the causes of cost of living pressures, how they are impacting Australians and develop sensible solutions to address this crisis.
The Cost of Living Committee has travelled around Australia, speaking to stakeholders and ordinary Australians about how Labor’s cost of living crisis is impacting them.
From individuals, to families, to small and medium local businesses, the message to the Committee has been the same.
The Committee is still looking to hear from more Australians and wants to hear from you.
A website has been created to link people to the Committee’s online cost of living survey.
You can share their story by making a submission, which can be accessed by visiting yourcostofliving.au.
