Cop this for a slithery welcome

Queensland Police is again showing they’re employing someone with a sense of humour.

A media statement sent out today to welcome Springwood’s latest Police Beat officer carries the headline: “New S-s-s-springwood officer meeting the locals”.

It tells how one of Senior Constable Rob Whitehead’s first visitors was a 2m-plus carpet snake.

“If you belong to any Springwood community groups, schools or other organisations where you would like a visit from our Police Beat officers and you are not a 2m long reptile, you can contact the Springwood Police Beat on 3826 4233 or make an inquiry through the S;pringwood Police Station on 3809 5222,” it reads.

“Springwood Police Division are delighted to welcome a new officer to the Springwood Neighbourhood Police Beat, situated at 364 Springwood Road, Springwood.

“This week, Senior Constable Rob Whitehead took up the position and is already making new friends-s-s-s in the community.

“This carpet snake, measuring in excess of two metres, was one of the first residents to visit Senior Constable Whitehead at the Police Beat on Wednesday, crossing Springwood Road to greet our new officer.

“As much as Senior Constable Whitehead enjoys meeting the locals, on this occasion, a professional snake catcher was called and the reptile was released safely back into nearby bush land.”
