Construction starts on social housing complex, Springwood

Construction has started on a 16-unit social housing complex at Springwood targeted towards seniors looking to downsize.

The $7.2 million facility will include 12 one-bedrooms units for single people, who in Logan make up the majority of the social housing waiting list, and two six-bedroom units for families.

The majority of the homes will be accessible for seniors and people with disability, with four designed to a ‘platinum’ level and eight designed to ‘gold’ level under the Liveable Housing Design guidelines.

The Queensland government said the units were built for seniors moving from larger social homes.

The Member for Springwood, Mick de Brenni, said the development represented “hope and stability for everyone who calls this community home”.

“Today marks another important milestone in my commitment to deliver safe and affordable homes for our neighbourhood,” he said.

“Since 2015, we have delivered over 500 affordable government homes in the region, and the Big Build is our commitment to accelerating the construction of good, secure government led housing.”
