WHEN people ask me what makes Logan special, I often point to people like Tammy Robinson.
Her recognition as ‘Australia’s kindest person’ is no surprise to us here in Logan. Tammy is the fairy godmother of formals and I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving to take home the title.
I first met Tammy in 2019. I had heard about a woman who had been quietly helping Year 12 students with outfits for their school formal.
I arrived at her home in Crestmead with a suit to donate. I walked up the front stairs and before I could even knock the door flung open and I was greeted by a beaming smile.
I was blown away by her generous spirit and her selflessness. She refused any kind of funding and told me she just needed more formal attire to help young men and women dress to impress for one of the biggest nights of their young lives.
We became friends that day and have been ever since. I suspect I won her over by offering to try on a formal dress to promote her call out for more suits and gowns on social media.
Her passion project turned into Formally Ever After, a not-for-profit initiative that lets every Year 12 student attend their school formal in style, regardless of financial circumstances.
Tammy has changed the lives of thousands of young people in our city and around Australia through donated dresses, suits, shoes, and accessories, to help make teenagers’ dreams come true.
She has always been someone who puts others first.
Whether through her work in aged care or through Formally Ever After, Tammy has dedicated her life to helping people. She is a shining example of the things we value in Logan: generosity, resilience, and a strong community spirit.
We see kindness in action every single day in our amazing city. It’s who we are.
Whether it’s neighbours helping each other through tough times, volunteers giving their weekends to support local charities, or businesses stepping up to provide opportunities for young people, Logan has it all.
And let’s not forget that when Tammy lost all her formal gowns in a fire last year, the community rallied behind her, donating thousands of dresses, suits and accessories to restock her supplies.
Coming up, there will be another chance for the people of Logan to put their amazing kindness on display when I host the Mayor’s Charity Christmas lunch.
Guests will each bring a toy to donate to Logan’s Emergency Services Santa Run, which is also an incredible example of people in our city giving generously to those in need.
We will be raising funds for the City of Logan Charity Trust, who work tirelessly to support the amazing charities in our city through their grant rounds.
We don’t just talk about caring and kindness in Logan, we live it.
Tammy’s story is proof of that. Yes, her recognition is a huge personal achievement, but it’s also a reflection of our whole city.
