The March gathering of the Community Crop Swap Jimboomba & Surrounds carried special significance as it coincided with International Women’s Day.
Held on the grounds of Hills International College, adjacent to the tennis courts, the monthly crop swap continues to provide a welcoming space for local gardeners and community members to connect through a shared love of fresh produce and sustainable living. Our March event incorporated a relaxed “bring-a-plate” breakfast, offering an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution of women within our community.
Alongside the usual abundance of home-grown vegetables, herbs, seedlings, seeds and homemade preserves, attendees shared breakfast dishes while enjoying Mimosas, fresh orange juice and tea or coffee. The informal setting encouraged conversation, reflection and connection, reinforcing the strong sense of community that underpins the crop swap each month.
True to its founding principles, the event remained focused on sharing rather than selling, with no money exchanged. By swapping surplus produce and home-made goods, participants support local food resilience while reducing waste and strengthening community ties.
The International Women’s Day gathering was a fitting reminder that when people come together with generosity and purpose, both gardens and communities flourish.
