Closure of busy bank angers residents

One of Logan’s busiest bank branches is set to close its doors early next month.

Commonwealth Bank at Logan Central Plaza will be shutting down permanently from 4pm on June 4.

The move is in line with national trends to rationalise face-to-face banking services, but residents say it’s a poor decision.

“I don’t quite understand why they’d close this branch,” customer and resident Peter Martin said.

“It’s always got plenty of people in it. Our options are now limited. We can go to the Bank of Queensland, but there aren’t too many of those interstate.

“It’s just another inconvenience, and it would seem all the banks are worried about is the dollars and cents – they don’t give a damn about customer service.”

A group of people are believed to be joining together to protest the closure.

Commonwealth Bank has other branches at Springwood, Loganholme and Browns Plains, which Mr Martin says leaves customers in the Logan Central area high and dry when it comes to their banking needs.

In a brochure notifying residents of the closure, the Commonwealth Bank pointed people to other branches or internet banking.

“We understand that this change may affect the way that you bank with us,” it said.

“Our team at Logan Central Plaza are available to help you identify the most suitable options for your future banking needs.”

Customers were also notified by post.
