City’s latest attraction draws a crowd

There’s a fair bit of hype around the recent opening of Rashays, a family-style restaurant which has already been set up at Ipswich, Redbank and Strathpine.

The latest addition at Hyperdome was a full house on Friday night with tables turning over quickly.

In searching for a single word to describe it, there was only one which seemed appropriate: Hectic.

Rashays is employing quite a few staff, and many of them learning a modern service system on the job – taking orders to tablet, sending them to an electronic job board, much like most fast food outlets.

It’s a great system because it means meals are prepared quickly. The only hitch is that drinks order goes separately to the bar, the food order to the kitchen.

This means it’s pot luck whether you get your drinks or your meal first.

That said, there are plenty of floor staff, so it’s as simple as grabbing their attention and they’ll happily chase things down for you.

The menu is vast. It’s got American-style diner chain written all over it – like they’ve taken the top 10 most-ordered food ever and popped it on the list. Smart.

It’s a good idea to know what you feel like before walking in, because there’s a good chance they’ll have it, and it’ll avert any menu confusion as you rattle through the pages of options.

Buffalo wings are prominent, and the ranch sauce is tasty.

Beef or lamb ribs also seem to be a popular choice, and they come out tender – falling off the bone as they should.

Steaks, schnitzels, burgers, pizzas, pasta and a variety of salads are all there, as is an extensive breakfast bar, offering up an indication of the intended opening hours.

Meals are large, but it’s certainly the right place to keep dessert in mind, with Nutella the flavour of the day – on a pizza or waffle, in a crepe or a pancake, or over ice cream. There are other traditional desserts too.

Salads tend to be a good benchmark for pricing, and at Rashays they’re $25 – certainly not in the bargain category, nor are the ribs or steaks which are priced from $28 for a sirloin through to $53 for a Wagyu scotch fillet, and $35 for a single rack of lamb ribs, through to $63 for a full rack of flame-grilled short beef ribs.

Not dissimilar to pub prices.

However, there are some great lunch specials for $15. It also might be more ideally suited to anyone looking for a quieter time of day to explore the city’s latest attraction.
