All four members of the Merrett household are chasing their dreams this year.
This means pursuing work and university for the children.
And for the parents, Greg and Maree, it’s moving closer to the water.
But first they’re going to have to say a difficult goodbye to their Daisy Hill home of more than 20 years.
“It’s been a great family home,” Mr Merrett said.
“Plenty of room for the kids, it’s got a cubby house and all that sort of stuff.
“And we’ve laid a lot of artificial turf in the backyard so I didn’t have to bring the mower up – we’ve played a lot of footy and cricket out there, I can tell you.”
The Trevallyan Drive property boasts more than 1780sqm with a massive six-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom home.
The fully renovated house spans three levels, complete with a fireplace for colder nights.
“There’s also a little wine cellar tucked under the house,” Mr Merrett said.
Outside offers landscaped gardens, a large pool and multiple entertainment areas.
“It’s all been re-landscaped out the back, with all the retaining walls and pavers,” Mr Merrett said.
“We extended the master bedroom to put in a walk-in-robe, and we fully renovated the ensuite.
“We also re-did the whole front deck.
“We’ve done a fair bit.”
He said his favourite part of the home was the fireplace.
“I built a wood fireplace, and in winter we just love that,” he said.
“We sit down and love watching the footy around the open fire.
“It’s really nice in the sunken lounge area.”
He said the other highlights were the neighbours and community.
“They’re all great,” Mr Merrett said.
“They actually want to vet who buys the home.”
He said the entire street was a tight-knit community that performs Christmas carols together every Christmas Eve.
“And also, for the past 40 years I think, the entire street has done a progressive dinner,” he said.
“One neighbour does entree, one does main, and one does dessert, and you get three new volunteers.
“We’ve had some great dinners – it’s normally about 30 or 40 people that come.”
Mr Merrett said it was a unique community he would “certainly miss”.
“It’s one of the main reasons we love living here,” he said.
As for the future owners, the Merrett’s think a home-based business would be ideal.
“…because you’ve got an office and powder room downstairs,” Mr Merritt said.
“Or a tradie because it’s got two garages – one you could easily use as a workshop – and all that storage.”
