Loganholme charity Lighthouse Care is organising a free alternative Ekka festival for local residents.
Lighthouse Care founder Debbie Hill said she was proud to see the whole community come together to support Lighthouse’s Good Food Festival she hoped they could reach out to even more families this year.
“With the cost of living the way it is, so many local families simply can’t afford to take their kids to the Ekka, and our hearts break at the thought of any child missing out on that joy,” Ms Hill said.
“The Good Food Festival is our way of making sure they don’t have to. We wanted to create a free day out where families can enjoy all the fun, food and excitement without ever having to worry about the cost.”
In 2025, the event saw 4000 people attend, with support from more than 20 local businesses and more than 20,000 items, including clothes, games, toys, shopping vouchers and coffee given away, along with more than 4000 free meals served and 600 $25 trolleys of groceries given to families in need.
This year, the community event aims to raise $100,000 through sponsorships and donations and bring the community together to provide practical support through free food, family activities, entertainment, market stalls and food relief.
The festival will host free food and drinks, including 400 smash burgers from a local smash burger food truck; free entertainment including carnival games, face painting and a petting zoo; market stall items such as clothing and home decor; competitions and giveaways, including a free “fill your own showbag” giveaway.
The Good Food Festival will be held next door to Lighthouse outside the LSKD headquarters from 9am-1pm on Saturday, 15 August.

“It’s a great opportunity to create a place where families can come together, enjoy free food, activities and entertainment, and have a great day out without having to worry about the cost.“
