A group of local Afghans recently ratified their Australian citizenship in a ceremony led by the Women Empowerment and Leadership Association.
The ceremony, which arrived just in time for Refugee week, was presided over by federal treasurer and local member Jim Chalmers.
Also in attendance was the president of the Afghan Australia National Council, Mohib Iqbalb.
A spokesperson for the Women Empowerment and Leadership Association said the team was grateful to all the attendees for “celebrating the diversity of multicultural Australians”.
“As a team, we consider this citizenship ceremony a powerful symbol of freedom,” the spokesperson said.
“The event held great importance for the Afghan community, and we are thrilled to have been able to organise it.”
“We are immensely grateful for the unwavering support of the Logan City Council, without which this event would not have been possible.
“With their backing, we were able to accomplish great things.”
