Women across Logan will come together to connect and celebrate each other at an International Women’s Day celebration on 8 March.
Held at the Beenleigh Artisan Rum Distillery, the event will highlight the achievements of local women while providing a platform for networking and empowerment.
The day will feature women speakers and fundraising activities aimed at recognising the impact women have across various sectors in the City of Logan.
Host of the event, mayoress Alison Raven, spoke about the significance of the event, and said it was important that women come together to celebrate and support each other.
“This event is a chance to be inspired by the achievements of women in our community and celebrate the tremendous impact they have on those around them,” she said.
Logan is home to many influential women shaping the city’s future through leadership, business, and community work.
Mrs Raven noted that Logan has a proud history of strong female leadership, citing former mayor Pam Parker and 2025 Young Australian of the Year Dr Katrina Wruck.
“We have so many amazing women in our city contributing in different ways,” she said.
“Whether they’re running businesses or organisations, working hard to pay the bills, or raising the next generation – they’re all contributing in their own way.”
Beyond recognition, the event aims to encourage unity and empowerment.
“The mayor often says if you want to go first, go alone – but if you want to go far, go together,” Mrs Raven said.
“I think this is a great message to keep in mind for events like these. We are stronger when we are united.”
Reflecting on the broader meaning of International Women’s Day, Mrs Raven highlighted both the progress made and the challenges that remain.
“To me, it’s a chance to celebrate and recognise some of the great achievements from local women and reflect on what change is still needed,” she said.
She also acknowledged the women who have personally influenced her, particularly her mother.
“Early in her career when she worked in banking, women couldn’t even have their own bank account, so the importance of equality was always emphasised in our house growing up,” she said.
Mrs Raven also spoke about the role that men play in ensuring a safe and bright future for all women.
“Support and encourage women to achieve their goals, whatever those may be,” she said.
“Shut down negative comments if you hear them, let your mates know if their behaviours are out of line, we can all play a role in making our community safer and fairer for women.”
