VOLUNTEER organisers of the Beenleigh Cane Gala Ball and Parade remain optimistic that the event will go ahead on October 16.
The only thing in their way will be an unforeseen lockdown.
Current Stage 2 restrictions are due to be lifted two days before the parade and ball which is returning to Beenleigh for the first time in seven years.
Members of the Rotary Club of Beenleigh are busy putting finishing touches on the reinvigoration of the community day.
“The Rotary Club of Beenleigh is thrilled to be organising the return of the Beenleigh Cane Parade and Gala Ball,” club members said.
The Beenleigh Cane Parade is set to take place through the streets of Beenleigh from 10am, travelling from George Street (Outside McDonald’s) up and into City Road, and finishing at Beenleigh State High School.
“This free community event will be sweeter than ever with fabulous floats including walking groups from local businesses, community groups, schools and organisations along with vehicle floats, bands and industry related vehicles,” they said.
The event draws on Beenleigh’s heritage, when the area was sprawling with cane farms.
In the evening, the Beenleigh Event Centre hosts the Beenleigh Cane Gala Ball, where there will be a three-course menu themed on making local produce shine.
Proceeds from the parade and ball go toward a new youth literacy project “Sugar Sweet Stories” – a combined project of the Rotary Club of Beenleigh, Quota Beenleigh, and Soroptimist International Beenleigh.
Organisers are asking anyone along the parade route to throw a donation into the buckets that will be carried around on the day.
“Come join with the Rotary Club of Beenleigh as we show off our town, our community, our spirit, and our hearts,” organisers said.
“We hope to continue to grow these events in years to come, so get out and support the event so we can keep going, bringing it back to the events the community loved in years gone by.”
