‘Bucket bomb’ goes off, Kingston

POLICE say an “improvised explosive device”, otherwise believed to be a home-made bucket bomb, detonated at a Kingston house yesterday afternoon.

Police declared an emergency zone, closing off nearby streets.

They said a man, 52, was moving the bucket in the front yard of his Jacaranda Avenue home when it exploded.

He was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital with serious lower leg injuries and concussion.

Injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

Police said they went to the house at around 5.30pm yesterday afternoon. Ambulance crews also attended.

A crime scene remained in place this morning with specialist police on scene.

Investigations continue.
