Boy’s death under ‘thorough’ review

Logan Hospital and the state health department have both promised a review of events which led to the release of a five-year-old boy who died just hours later.
The boy Hiyaan Kapil, was reportedly in excruciating pain after being discharged from hospital.
And his father Uttam Kapil told media he had asked for more treatment, but was told to take his son home.
The boy had been feeling unwell with stomach pains for several days, and was in the emergency department for four hours where he was vomiting on Sunday night (May 22).
He collapsed at home, and was rushed back to hospital last Monday morning where he died.
Metro South Health’s acting chief operating Noelle Cridland said the hospital was helping the coroner in relation to the matter.
And the boy’s death would be the subject of a “thorough” review.
“Our hearts go out to the family Hiyaan Kapil for their tragic loss and we extend our deepest sympathies to his parents, family and friends,” she said.
“Our clinicians are dedicated to providing the best possible care to all our patients.”
