Bird watching brochure launched

Bird watchers in Logan are being given a handy guide which helps detail the sites and species of birds that can be seen around the region.

The pocket guide has been put together by Birds Queensland and BirdLife Southern Queensland.

The brochure lists 39 sites where people can go to see birds, including its UBD reference, GPS coordinates, disabled access, parking, toilets, barbecues and other facilities.

Over the past six months, a dedicated group of bird enthusiasts visiting hotspots around the city. This includes the identification of new sites in many of Logan’s parks and recreation areas.

The group says more than a third of the bird species in Australia can be found in Logan.

There are 39 birdwatching sites which have been published in the guide. They follow the waterways in the city.

“In addition, the brochure highlights the many natural resources available to the 1.4 million visitors annually in
the region, supporting the $347 million tourism, sports and events industry for Logan,” a group representative said.

The brochure was officially launched on April 17 at the Amphitheatre, Eagleby Wetlands – one of the premium birding sites in Logan.
