Best careers built brick by brick – Mayor Darren Power

When you are on the hunt for your next career, there’s nothing like being handed the tools to make it happen.

Luckily, those tools will be on offer this Thursday, for those seeking employment in our local construction, manufacturing and trade industries.

Council’s successful Logan Jobs Expo is returning to the Logan Metro Sports & Events Centre, at 357 Browns Plains Road in Crestmead.

The free event will feature more than 70 exhibitors this year, including local businesses providing employment, training and apprenticeship opportunities.

Attendees will have the chance to explore a variety of local jobs on offer, learn the requirements of each position and receive tips on getting themselves employment-ready.

Our Logan Jobs Expo in 2022 attracted more than 800 people and saw 17 of those secure local employment on the day.

That’s 17 local families who now have more possibilities in front of them. This year, we hope to see that happen for even more jobseekers.

The Expo is another initiative of my Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce, which was launched in 2021 to connect eager job seekers of all ages with our community’s great education, training and employment providers.

In the past 12 months, the Taskforce initiatives have helped 213 people – including 58 youth – find local employment.

At the same time, our council continues to do everything it can to help create and maintain jobs and lifestyles across our city.

Our Logan Office of Economic Development facilitated 11 new projects in the 2022/23 financial year in areas including warehousing, mobility scooters, the expansion of drone delivery, health and medical services, and the creative and performing arts.

These projects resulted in $266.68 million of capital expenditure in our city, creating 438 new jobs.

Council’s Investment Attraction Incentive Fund – designed to encourage major employers looking to relocate and support existing companies looking to grow – helped support 5 businesses to get on with their plans.

This investment led to 139 new full time positions and attracted more than $28 million of capital investment in our city.

Council knows that connecting skilled local people with enterprising local businesses keeps talent in our city and helps us all to prosper.

The Logan Jobs Expo will run from 9am until 2pm.
