Be sure to give your garbo a wave

Council’s new waste collection contractor Cleanaway is now into the third week of services.

As with any new service provider, there has been a few challenges, but in a city as widespread as ours, a few hiccups were to be expected.

I would like to thank residents for their patience and to reassure you that we are working hard to provide the best bin collection service possible.

More than 186,000 bins are emptied across the City of Logan every week.

During the first week a few bins were missed as drivers became familiar with the new routes.

In many cases, residents had not put out their bins the night before or prior to 6am on the day of collection and missed the truck.

That’s okay, we made sure we came back and collected them.

Some collection trucks returned the same afternoon or over the next couple of days to empty missed bins. This included over the weekend.

I would like to acknowledge the outstanding work our garbos do. They’re up at 4am and are dedicated to providing a great service.

I read somewhere on social media that council was using ‘sneaky spy cameras’, which is just rubbish (excuse the pun).

Cameras on garbage trucks are an industry standard practice, and have been for years.

We want to make sure the service we provide is safe and that we have a record of the bins we collect.

And don’t worry if your bin day falls on a public holiday. We will still empty them.

Need a reminder that your bin is due to be emptied? Why not download the City of Logan app onto your smartphone or device.

If you have a green waste bin, remember that it is emptied every fortnight on the opposite week to your yellow lid recycling bin.

You will be seeing the new-look, much quieter blue and white Cleanaway waste trucks around the city.

Be sure to give your friendly garbo a wave and say g’day.
