Basketball Queensland confirms Logan as new home

Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre has confirmed the city’s worst-kept sporting secret – that Basketball Queensland would be making Logan its home base.

Basketball Queensland will take up the administration space previously occupied by Brisbane Roar soccer club which pulled out after a dispute with council over payments.

City lifestyle chair Laurie Koranski said the five-year lease would bring economic and sporting benefits to the city.

“Logan Metro is an excellent venue and to have Basketball Queensland seek it out is testament to the quality of our facilities,” Cr Koranski said.

Basketball Queensland has 36 affiliated member associations that deliver competitions, development programs and high-level governance to more than 45,000 players, coaches, officials and administrators.

Chief executive officer Graham Burns said Basketball Queensland is excited join the City of Logan community and have a new home at Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre.

“Logan’s strong sense of community first, combined with the progressive nature of the city are key reasons why Basketball Queensland identified Logan as a potential home,” he said.

“We look forward to working closely with Logan City Council and key community stakeholders to ensure that we, as an organisation, continue to champion these values through our management of the Logan Metro Sports and Events Centre.”

Basketball Queensland will ensure the venue continues to be available to host a range of sporting, community and civic events.

The lease does not include the Logan Metro Insports Gym, which will continue to be managed by council including the delivery of Allied Health Programs to the community.
