Award for Broncos Girls Academy student

Beyond the Broncos Girls Academy student, Ella-Rose Betheras from Flagstone State Community College, is among a new generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to be reconnecting with culture and kicking academic goals in the classroom.

She is one of 41 students in the program to be selected for the top honour.

More than 160 students across the Logan region are enrolled in this years’ Beyond the Broncos Girls Academy, an initiative to inspire, empower and assist with educational opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls.

Ella-Rose is being presented with a trophy today by Ali Brigginshaw and Scott Prince.

“Ella-Rose has shown a deep sense of pride for her culture, always putting her hand up to take part in any cultural activities, school events and Girls Academy workshops,” Ms Brigginshaw said.

“She is a great role model for the other girls in the program as she is always eager to learn and grow as an individual.”

“In the Logan region, we have seen an increase in young Indigenous girls attending school and valuing education, highlighting the benefits of the program,” Broncos community manager Christine Halliwell said.

“It is inspiring to see what a difference the program has made to students like Ella-Rose. She is setting goals for the future and is determined to make a difference in her community.”
