Artistic triumph for young Zachary

The winners of the World Environment Day calendar competition were announced at the Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF) on Sunday 4 June.

The competition aimed to inspire Logan students to use art as a method of exploring their connection to the land around them, through the theme: Connection to Country – This land is me.

The winning students will have their artworks showcased in a calendar.

St Edwards Catholic Primary School student, Zachary Jacobs’ artwork will feature on the front page of the calendar.

Mr Jacobs took home the Mayor’s Choice Award for his artwork illustrating “I am the Land and the Land is me”.

Mayor Darren Power and Councillors presented this year’s winners with certificates and prize packs at the Logan Eco Action Festival (LEAF) at Meadowbrook.

Councillor Power said that the annual competition always produced “inspiring” artworks.

“It’s fantastic to see how our youngest generation have connected with country and the natural environment as part of this calendar competition,” Cr Power said.

“The artwork each year is always outstanding, and it’s quite a difficult task to narrow it down to just a handful of winners.”
