Alleged homicide following DV altercation

A 30-year-old Marsden man has been charged with killing his father early this morning (Tuesday 13 June).

Police charged the man with murder and he is due to face Beenleigh Magistrates Court sometime today.

Around 1am, police were called to a property on Redwood Street after reports of a serious assault.

Police arrested a 30-year-old Marsden man upon arrival, and shortly afterwards found his deceased father, 67, in the backyard.

A 60-year-old woman – the accused person’s mother and victim’s partner- was also at the property but she was not physically injured.

QPS detective inspector Chris Knight said the 30-year-old was living with his parents at the address and his mother was not involved in the altercation.

“… she’s an incredibly strong lady,” Mr Knight said.

According to reports, neigbours who could see into the backyard said it was a “really distressing scene”.

Mr Knight agreed.

“There is no doubt that it was a violent and confronting scene,” he said.

The property was declared a crime scene early this morning and police say officers are working to “determine the circumstances surrounding the altercation”.

The 30-year-old is assisting police with inquiries and investigations are continuing.

He has been charged with murder.

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
