AN alleged bikie gang member has been charged following an alleged “violent assault” at the Meadowbrook Hotel last month.
Police allege the assault happened at the pub at around 6.30pm on 25 September.
“… a group of men were sitting at a table inside The Meadowbrook Hotel where it will be alleged one of the men assaulted a man, causing him to fall to the ground,” a police statement read.
“Yesterday (17 October), detectives arrested a 34-year-old man in relation to the assault following the execution of a search warrant at a Helensvale residence.”
Detectives from the organised crime gangs group allege the man is a member of the Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMCG).
He has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage.
Organised crime gangs Detective Inspector Craig Bowman said this was an “unprovoked act of violence” that shows just how dangerous these gangs can be.
“OMCGs are violent, and their criminal behaviour can cause real harm in our community. Police see firsthand the devastating impact their actions have, not just on those caught up in criminal activity, but on their families, friends, and innocent people around them,” Detective Inspector Bowman said.
“Taskforce Maxima will continue to work tirelessly to stop gang-related violence and people from being drawn into this destructive lifestyle.”
Investigators are urging anyone with relevant information or who witnessed the assault, but who have not yet spoken to police, to come forward.
As part of an appeal, footage released shows the men sitting at the table around the time of and following the alleged assault.
